A word in time saves nine...

One day my dearest friend Ruth looked around the messy sitting room and gently said eight words that are changing my life:

"You can't just do one thing can you"
And gradually over the last few weeks those words have sunk into my brain and surface again and again, and I realise that she's right. And I also realise that multi-tasking is over-rated.

One thing at a time works well for me, especially at the moment when I (and the rest of Christchurch) have Earthquake Brain. Every day I aim to do one job completely, start to finish. It's a revelation. It's working. Today's job: tidy the spare room in the office. You just never know when one little word (or set of words) will change your attitude.

  6. Great advice!
I've had only 1 job on my to-do list for the past few days but I've let myself procrastinate so much I haven't even made a start. But that's ANOTHER psychological barrier to overcome ;-)

  9. I read a book once where the woman gave up one thing each month just for that month, one month she gave up multi-tasking! She never went back. I too am trying to take that approach, can't say how well it's working, sigh.

  10. wow that is such a great idea. i am usually running back and forth between several house projects and then there is all the other crafty stuff i wish i had more time for. i guess it can stretch you pretty thin so to be able to finish something completely must be so satisfying
