On being married...

Today David and I have been married for 21 years, twenty one years!
It just sounds like such a long time to be together,
I can't imagine the process of growing up without David there.

It's all very well to want to do your own thing or go your own path,
but sometimes that does get a bit lonely.
It is nice to have someone to snuggle up to on cold nights!!

Being together is not just about being exactly the same,
in fact being different means you get to experience life in a completely different way.

It does help if you have a shared background,
if something about the way you grew up, is similar. It's common ground
and in hard times, it is good to fall back on. To remember where you both came from.

The hardest part about getting married young,
is letting the other person grow. To find they are someone completely different to the one you
thought you were marrying. I think this is the biggest challenge.
To keep loving a person who changes, and is changing,
because actually if they stayed exactly the same,
that would be awful as well.

As the years go by and life happens around you every day,
it is just so awesome to know that we are connected to each other.
To know that whatever happens,
we can hang out together in the great vege bin of life
and know how the other person feels.

Or to know that no matter how nuts you are,
your other half is just as nutty really.

Happy Anniversary David,
here's to many more years doing life together!!!!

  2. Ours was 28 years on the 1st June. I completely agree with your sentiments, we have grown together and the security of love has allowed us to continue to be ourselves. Not everyone gets that so I know I am very blessed! Sounds like you also have that connection, well done to you both!
